After more than 20 years of research on around 1300 cetaceans, the University Institute of Animal Health and Food Safety of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (IUSA- ULPGC) discovered a new pathological entity, similar to Budd Chiarri syndrome, which can cause severe cirrhosis in humans. The results of this study will help to resolve the great international controversy that arose in 2002, when images of liver cysts in dolphins in the United Kingdom were published, together with the dead beaked whales during military manoeuvres in Fuerteventura.<\/p>\n

The article published in the prestigious journal Nature.com concluded that the aetiopathogenesis (what and how these liver cysts are produced) is clearly different to the injuries that cause the death of the beaked whales during the use of anti-submarine sonar. Loro Parque would like to congratulate wholeheartedly Antonio Fern\u00e1ndez and all his team for the excellent results of this study.<\/p>\n
